Patient Instructions

When you come for your lab test, be sure to bring the lab test order from your provider, your insurance card, and identification.

Fasting

The laboratory defines fasting as no food, drink (water is OK and encouraged), or smoking for 12 hours before blood is drawn. Some tests are affected by Biotin (Vitamin B supplements) so please refrain from taking supplements containing Biotin for 24 hours before your blood draw. Patients may still take medication with small amounts of water, unless your provider has given other instructions. Candy, gum, mints, tea and coffee containing sugar or creamer, and sodas (including diet sodas) should not be consumed if your labs require fasting.
